Have You Really Secured Your Data?
In response to demanding availability and business continuity requirements, many organizations have implemented complex storage ecosystems. However, these storage ecosystems are rarely subjected to the scrutiny imposed on other information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and, thus, they often lack basic security controls or participate in the overall data protection strategy. As organizations explore ways to secure their data, they often turn to their storage ecosystems and find that with careful planning and judicious use of the right technologies, they can eliminate some of their exposures. This session focuses on ways to protect data by using security within the storage ecosystem as well as making it an important element of a defense-in-depth strategy. Best practices along with factors to consider are presented for protecting storage management, data in-flight, and data at-rest within contemporary storage environments. |

"Black Hat" Search Engine Optimisation
In the web world, good search engine rankings are often the difference between a successful and unsuccessful business. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the practice of attempting to increase your website's ranking in search engine results by designing it in such a manner that search engines are more likely to display it as part of the results for a given keyword or set of keywords. There are many legitimate techniques for improving the search engine ranking of a website. However, there are also other more illegitimate techniques - referrred to as 'Black Hat' SEO - which are disallowed by search engines as they misrepresent the content of a site for the sole purpose of deceiving a search engine into increasing the site's ranking in search query results. This talk investigates these "Black Hat" SEO techniques, exploring the tricks that dubious webmasters use to increase their search engine rankings and the detrimental impact that these practices create for owners of other websites. |

State of Storage Security Standards
With the further proliferation of data protection regulations as well as the increasingly sophisticated attacks by adversaries against data, the need to secure these data throughout the information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure has never been more important. Even the often-overlooked ICT like storage ecosystems are being included, which in turn is causing multiple standards organizations and industry associations to engage. This session identifies the major storage security standardization activities and provides a brief description of the relevant documents. In addition, a holistic perspective will be presented, including possible gaps in the current activities. |

How to keep a hot application running cool:
The development of the pending PoE Plus standards brings to light a significant new challenge in delivering power over a structured cabling system. The higher power delivered by PoE Plus devices causes a temperature rise within the cabling which can negatively impact the system performance. The information presented by John Varoutsos will allow people to be better equipped to make PoE Plus ready cabling choices that will support reduced current-induced temperature rise and minimise the risk of degraded physical and electrical performance due to elevated temperature. |
